INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 8M
![]() Thursday, March 6 at 6:00 p.m. the Archaeological Museum of Asturias International Women's Day is celebrated with the screening of the documentary “Off the Archeological Record”, a reflection on the role of women in the field of professional Archaeology. It has been directed by Katia Calmet Valle based on an original idea by Paloma Zarzuela Gutiérrez, and is produced by the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Pastwomen Network, with the support of the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Generalitat of Cataluña. It narrates, through seven Spanish female archaeologists, the recent past of the discipline from a gender perspective. The university, museums, companies or administration have been the meeting points with the protagonists of this story. This documentary analyzes the inequalities that are still rooted within the discipline through the personal experiences of very diverse archaeologists. Issues such as precariousness, specialization, camaraderie, leadership, directions or motherhood are addressed, factors that influence the continuity (or not) of professional careers. After the screening of the documentary, a round table will be held in which the following will participate: Paloma Zarzuela Gutiérrez, contracted predoctoral researcher at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, author of the original idea and script of the documentary. Susana de Luis Mariño, museum curator of the Department of Protohistory and Colonizations of the National Archaeological Museum, one of the seven archaeologists who star in the documentary. Estefanía Sánchez Hidalgo, Asturian archaeologist with a long professional career and currently Head of the Documentation Unit of the Cultural Heritage Service of the Ministry of Culture, Language Policy and Sports. Mª Antonia Pedregal, director of the Archaeological Museum of Asturias, will moderate |
