The Archaeological Museum of Asturias has received a donation of Palaeolithic pieces from the family of José Antonio Sánchez Feliz. The lot includes a complete human skull with all the skull bones, found by Sánchez Feliz's father in 1947 in the cave of La Lloseta, in Ribadesella. According to the Government of the Principality, the analyses carried out by Rodrigo de Balbín and José Javier Alcolea place the calotte - the upper part of the cranial vault - at the end of the Upper Palaeolithic period. Over the years, José Antonio Sánchez Prieto made several forays into the area and found valuable archaeological artefacts in La Lloseta, in the Ardines massif. The collection that his son is now donating to the Archaeological Museum includes 17 Palaeolithic remains. In addition to the aforementioned human cranial vault, there are also remains of antlers and bones from different herbivores and a blackish flint biface found in the vicinity of the cave at the end of 1967. These are pieces found from the 1940s to the end of the 1960s in this enclave in Ríos de la Ríos. The material is in a very good state of conservation, as it was carefully wrapped and protected by the family during all these years. The donation was formalised this week, reports Europa Press.
