By MICHAEL WILKINSON, Vice President of the Valdediós Cultural Circle

A new perspective on the role of the queen consort Berenguela (1197-1204), a decisive and highly skilled character in turbulent times, will be offered. Valdedíos was his main project shared with Alfonso IX and exceptional at the time. The motives and real actions, both devotion and power, will be examined within their determining relationships with the Church, the kingdom of Castile and with Maliayo (Villaviciosa).
