MILLENNIUM OF THE FOUNDATION OF THE MONASTERY OF SAN SALVADOR DE CORNALLANA. SERIES OF CONFERENCES
MILLENNIUM OF THE FOUNDATION OF THE MONASTERY OF SAN SALVADOR DE CORNALLANA CYCLE OF CONFERENCES organized by the Archaeological Museum of Asturias As part of the programme of events and acts scheduled to institutionally commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the founding of the monastery of San Salvador de Cornellana (Salas), 1024-2024, the Archaeological Museum of Asturias has organised a series of lectures on the history, documentation and cultural heritage generated by these thousand years of monastic history. Under the title ‘The Monastery of Cornellana in the light of its archaeological footprint’, five specialists will analyse aspects ranging from the archaeological background of the territory in which the monastery would come to be settled to the constructive evolution of the monastic building, including its movable endowment and the documentary production of its scriptorium. The letures will take place at the monastery of Cornellana, according to the following programme:
Between the villa of Cornelius and Beriso. Cornellana on the threshold of History. By Ángel Villa Valdés, archaeologist at the Archaeological Museum of Asturias. A brief review of the archaeological sites that illustrate how the territory in which the Monastery of Cornellana was to be founded was, due to its optimal location and abundant natural resources, a preferential place for the stable settlement of human communities, at least from the end of prehistoric times.
