INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM THE KINGDOM OF ASTURIAS IN THE EUROPE OF THE VIIITH AND IXTH CENTURY

2-5 October 2018 in the Hotel Reconquista in Oviedo

This year marks the 1,300th anniversary of the Kingdom of Asturias, the first political entity arisen during the Christian Spain after the Moslem invasion in 711. In order to show different points of view on the beginnings of the Kingdom of Asturias and  European and Mediterranean context at the time. The Government of the Asturias organizes this International Symposium titled "The Kingdom of Asturias in the 8th and 9th century Europe" that will take place on 2-5 October 2018 in the Hotel Reconquista in Oviedo.

 

A scientific meeting to discuss decisive aspects of the historical reality in the Iberian Peninsula, from the Christian West to the Mediterranean East during the 8th and 9th centuries, providing a comparative perspective to historical areas such as politics, territorial management, implantation ecclesiastical or cultural relationships. The talks will be presented by professional speakers who  will show the overall picture over the last trends in investigation on this key period of the historical European development.
