THE PREHISTORY AND CLASSICAL ANTIQUITY OF PILOÑA. CONFERENCE IN THE SOCIAL CENTRE OF VILLAMAYOR (PILOÑA)

Friday 11 November at 19:00 h in the Villamayor Social Centre, Old Schools, (Piloña)

CONFERENCE

"Ornamental carvings in the council of Piloña: reflection on the origin and possible meaning of geometric art during Prehistory and Antiquity in Asturias"

by Ángel Villa Valdés, the Archaeological Museum of Asturias.

Some arguments will be discussed which allow us to defend that the common motifs in protohistoric plastic art are bearers of a specific and relevant meaning shared by the pre-Roman peoples of the western Cantabrian area. A code that would subsist in the High-Imperial period, integrated into Roman cultural expressions such as epigraphy. The event is part of the programme of conferences entitled "El Camín de los Santuarios" sponsored by the Regional Ministry of Culture, Language Policy and Tourism of the Principality of Asturias under the direction and coordination of Andrés Martínez Vega.
